Our cutting systems cut out a printed product precisely using registration marks that are printed on the material along with the art, which then match up to a cut file in our cutting software.

These registration marks are detected by a camera and used to triangulate the coordinates of a cut path in the cut file. To allow room for these marks to be printed along with the art, there must be a border of free space around the art.

This border, or padding, reduces the amount of available print space on the material when a cut path is required. The default size from the edge of the cut path to the edge of the material is .5″.

However, if a cut path is not required, we are able to print full sheets edge-to-edge.
